Financial Peace University

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 5, Sunnyside will be offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. This 13-week course will be held each Tuesday until May 13 (except for March 25, which is Spring Break) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This study gives scriptural references for being debt-free, but also common sense approaches to attaining that goal. To sign up, attend one of the following two free preview sessions:
Sunday, Jan. 13, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 210 and
Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m. (either in the sanctuary or Room 210)
Both will last about an hour. Jan. 22 is the deadline to sign up.
Childcare will be provided (I’m working on that, so if you’re not interested in the course but can serve in the childcare realm, call me at 323-3186.).
What I need from each of you is to spread the word. This will be advertised in local papers and on radio stations. Our pastor means for this to be a great outreach opportunity. Word-of-mouth advertising just can’t be beat, so please pass this on to anyone who you think might be interested.
Bruce is going to lead the study. If you know my husband well, you know that being debt free is his God-given passion.
If you have any questions, just call.
Thanks,
Tanja

Christmas Party Update

Remember everyone that our Christmas party is this Sunday night after church. It is being catered by Food City-the cost is $10 per couple, for those of you who haven't paid yet. We do have childcare provided and it will be in the gym at church. We do ask if you plan on using the youth for childcare that you give them a donation. They have been kind enough to do this for us, so we want to make them feel appreciated. Also, bring a $5 Christmas gift per person for us to play our annual "exchange game". Looking forward to seeing you all there. It is at James and Cassie's house--if any of you need directions-feel free to give us a call. One more thing-if you signed up to get anything for our family that we have adopted-bring your gifts to the party and we will get them to the Salvation Army. Thanks so much guys--We love you ALL! Have a great week.

As many of you know, Greta's dad, Gary Clark passed out at church last night. He is doing better, but had another small episode today. Please remember him over the next month. They have told him that he can't drive or work while they are trying to determine a treatment plan. Left this family up in prayer this week.

Christmas Project

We have decided to adopt a family this Christmas. Sarah was able to contact the Salvation Army and got us a family that we can help out during this Christmas season. She has the information and is going to email it to me. Just wanted to let you guys know if you will be out shopping this weekend. Contact Sarah Murdock for details.

A Couple of Prayer Requests

Also, Sarah and I have a co-worker, Alaina Persinger, that is 25 weeks pregnant. She had to have an emergency c-section this morning. Please remember this baby, and her mother. The baby is NICU, and stable. Just say a prayer for these 2 families this morning.

New Christmas Party Date

We have finally decided on a date for our Christmas party. We had so many conflicts with the previous date. We decided on having it Sunday night after church on December 9th. That is the night of the children's program, so everyone should be planning on attending anyway. It is going to be at James and Cassie's house from 7(whenever church is over) until around 9:30 or 10. We are planning on having it catered, so we will be asking for a deposit for this during the next 2 weeks. Of course we will do our Christmas Ornament Exchange game. . .It's tradition you know! We are also checking into getting some of the youth to help us out with childcare--for those few hours. We could give them donations for their "services" and maybe order them a couple of pizzas--they would be glad to do it. I am going to talk to a couple of ladies about this tomorrow. . .and see what we can get worked out for childcare. . . Hope to see everyone at the party!!!

Sunnyside's New Website

Be sure to check out our church's new website. It is really impressive. . .Be sure to check out the children's classes. . you may see some pics of someone you guys know!! I love the pic of our YMCA class--you can see James' bald head. . Hee hee. . and Kevin looks great in his teaching mode. . .Just wanted to let you all know about it. . .Be sure to check it out!

Christmas Party

We have had numerous conflicts with our date that we selected for the Christmas Party. James and I talked to the people that were in class on Sunday asking everyone if it would be possible to have our party on a week night. We want to make it where as many people that can go will be able to. James is going to give everyone a call this week to see what you guys might think about it. It was decided that we are only doing a class party--not a department party--so it will be smaller than usual. . . Let us know what you guys think. Feel free to comment here on the blog--talk to you all soon. . .

Special Prayer Request

This is Gary Metcalf's(the chaplain at Holston Valley) son

"Please say a prayer for Jon Metcalf. Jon is a senior at Dobyns-Bennett and plays soccer. His family attends Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Jon fell off a golf cart Monday fracturing his skull and bruising the right front lobe of his brain. He has been in ICU all week. Last night, there was some hope because his eyes were reactive and responsive. However, the last update I received today stated that his blood pressure dropped during the night and the pressure in his brain has caused some damage. "
Please remember this family in your prayers.

Prayer Request

Recieved this prayer request from Tanja Moody today. . . .
"I talked with Kim Holdway this morning. Her grandfather passed away yesterday. Her mom, in particular, is having a very hard time, as are Kim’s kids. For those that don’t know, the Holdways recently joined a church nearer to their home in Fall Branch, so pray for them during this transitional time as well.
Also, please remember the extended Moody family. Bruce and John’s dads (Roy and Gene) lost their brother this afternoon. Uncle JC has been quite ill on and off for several months but this is still hard on them all. Our church is full of folks this will touch, including the families of Sherry Burgess and Lisa Rowland

Prayer Request

I recieved two special prayer request from Jennifer this morning. . . Please remember these precious children in your prayers this week.
"Please remember this little girl and family in your prayers. Thank-you
Jennifer =)"

(Ivory is the one on the left)
"I have a personal favor to ask of you, (knowing your praying people)
My son in law's sister IVORY is 7 years old and this week she was riding her go cart WITHOUT A HELMET, and lost control landing her under a neighbors double wide that didn't have any skirting.
She was stopped by the floor and support beam by her NECK.
She slashed her neck from her ear to her larynx, cutting her thyroid, her juggler was torn slightly causing the blood to drain into her lungs, which then collapsed, she broke her neck, & broke her back.
She was air lifted to MUSC , she has had 1 operation on her lower back and they found her spinal cord to be totally cut.
They have to wait for 2 weeks to operate on her larynx, thyroid and neck. Not knowing until then if her spinal cord is torn at the neck... which will tell to what extent she will be paralyzed.
This little girl is only seven years old and has her whole life to live. I ask you to lift her up to God in prayer.
And if you wouldn't mind adding her to your Church prayer chain, we all know what God can do when we only have Faith and come together in unity .
I have added an attachment of Ivory, she is the little girl to the left, and then one of her in the Hospital, she is such a pretty little girl, this accident just breaks my heart.
Thank you
SO much for your time and most importantly... your prayers.
Jan Livingston"
Here is the second prayer reqest:
"Ryan is a first grader at Northwest Elementary and was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor in 2004 that spread to his brain. Ryan is currently undergoing Chemo and will be returning to St. Jude's on November 14 for a follow-up appointment. To read more about Ryan, please visit his website : www.caringbridge.org/oh/ryanRyan is an amazing little boy and such a fighter! Come and show this little boy the love of Christ as we turn to our Father in prayer! If you are unable to attend, please commit your heart to praying for Ryan and his family. Thank you and we hope to see you there. God bless!*Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7"

Answered Prayers

I recieved this email from my co-worker. God is Good. . .
" For all of you who knew about everything going on with Megan, Ryan and the baby THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS! Megan and I were out today before she had to go to work and she got the call from the doctor's office. They said the amniocentesis results were in and that the baby is a NORMAL LITTLE GIRL! The chromosomes came back for a normal little girl, no abnormalities whatsoever. PRAISE BE TO GOD for all he has done and all he will continue to do. This proves that miracles can and do still happen and that the Lord is still answering prayers. Continue to remember all of us in your prayers that everything will continue to go well until this little one gets here in March. Thank each and everyone of you who were praying and had Megan, Ryan and their little girl on their church prayer lists. Please go to church Sunday and let everyone know how much we appreciate the prayers and send up the praises to God for all he has done.

Thank You,
Sonja
(the proud grandma to be)"
Thanks to everyone who prayed for this family.

Prayer Request

I recieved this prayer request from Susan Alderson today--
" Last year, Cassidy (4-yrs. old) was diagnosed with "coarctation of the aorta". This is basically a narrowing of the aorta which returns blood back from the heart to the lower extremities. As a result, the blood pressure gets higher on one side of the narrowing and lower on the other. When we went for her check-up recently, we found out that her condition has progressed and that it will only get worse as time goes by. We were told that she will need heart surgery, the only question is when. This is quite a change from when she was diagnosed and we were told that her condition could improve, get worse or remain the same. It's scary to think about her having heart surgery. We still believe that God can work miracles and we are praying that God will correct her problem and when we go back in 6-months, we will blow Dr. Teixeira out of the water. Secondly - last week I received a phone call from Cassidy's pediatrician to inform me that they think she also has a blood disorder called Von Willebrand disease. Cassidy will be seeing a hematologist next week for further investigation. Needless to say, Greg and I are on edge at this time and very concerned for Cassidy's health. We still believe that God can work miracles and are asking for prayers for Cassidy in regards to both health issues. Our church had alter prayer this past Sunday for Cassidy. I ask that you remember our daughter Cassidy in your prayers. "

Prayer requests

Please remember Duffer and Nicole in your prayers. Duffer lost his grandmother this week.

I also recieved this email from a co-worker, Sonya Crowe today--remember this family in your prayers. She is around 20 weeks pregnant.
"Just got back from the doctor and Ryan and Megan have gotten devestating news. Their little girl and our granddaughter probably will not survive. Megan had an amniocentesis done to confirm exactly what is wrong but we are looking at Trisomy 13 and if not that then she does have hydrocephelas. Please keep Ryan and Megan in your prayers as well as the rest of the family. We do know that God can take care of anything so pray that his will will be done but also that everything will come back fine and we will have a healthy little girl born in March even though we know that will probably will not happen. We are putting our trust in the Lord that he will take care of everything."

Prayer Requests

I recieved this note from Tanya Moody today

"Thanks to everyone who prayed for Bruce’s brother, Bryan, and his wife, Alondra. They had their second ultrasound today, and their little girl is perfectly fine. No problems noted anywhere. It has been a very long 5 weeks for them since their first ultrasound. Our God is good in all circumstances!!"

A Weekend to Remember

A Weekend to Remember is a conference that is going to be at Meadowview Conference Resort on November 2-4. It is presented by FamilyLife and is supposed to be an amazing conference. The brochure says the following:
" At this conference, you will
-Explore God's prupose for bringin you together in the first place
-Understand the role hardship plays in making every marriage stronger
-Make meaningful progress toward resolving past hurts
-Learn to recognize hidden strengths of your marriage that disguise themselves as obstacles
-Discover a brand new appreciation for your spouse
-Create an individualized plan for a lasting, healthy marriage
-Develop an exciting new outlook for your life together
How will your marriage be remembered? No matter where you are in the process, now is the time to take steps that will make your marriage everything that God intened it to be. A lifetime of great memories begins with a Weekend to Remember."
If anyone is interested in going to this--let James or me know. .We are thinking about going to this on our own--but would love to take a group. It is a little pricey, but I think it would be well worth it. . . If we have a large group the price decreases tremendously. check out the web site at www.weekendtoremember.com

This is my brothers' (Stevie) mother-in-law."

Friday, August 31, 2007

Prayer Request

Tanya Moody sent this prayer request to me this morning. . .I thought I would go ahead and post it so we can be praying for this family.

"Please lift up Bruce’s brother Bryan and his wife Alondra in the coming weeks. They had their ultrasound this morning for their fourth pregnancy. This one is another little girl. In six weeks, their OB/GYN wants to run another ultrasound, though, because the baby’s kidneys are enlarged and there are little tumors on the back of her head. Both of these situations are common and may resolve entirely on their own. Bryan is not overly concerned because he feels their doctor is test happy, and if these were super serious, he wouldn’t be waiting six weeks. However, mommies are different. Please pray specifically for peace for Alondra."

Hello Everyone!

What a great way to keep everyone updated on what is going on in our Sunday School Class!! A good friend of mine was telling me that their friend's Sunday School class has a blog site to serve as a sort of newsletter. We have attempted to have a newsletter numerous times, with it always not getting "carried on" due to everyone's busy schedules, ect. I hope this will be a great way to keep in touch with everyone. We will list prayer requests, praises, and upcoming socials on our site! Make sure to check it to see what's new for our class!!
